Ah, paint. It's a love-hate relationship for me (ps - you know you are officially an adult when you have a love-hate relationship with paint! But I digress...)
The best part about paint color is that it can completely change, revamp, and snazz-up an interior space for not a lot of money. The catch though? It can be really hard to select a color that amplifies the best parts of your space and gives you the vibe that you are looking for when it comes to your interior aesthetic. I once painted a guest room 3 different colors before saying "UGH! FINE!" and painting it white (which brings me to another point - WHITE! It can be the most alarming shade to pin down when it comes to selecting the right hue.)
So the good news, womanistas, is that I've got you covered (thanks to much trial and error). My friend & fabulous celebrity interior designer April Bermudez (make sure to check out her gorgeous blog Velvet's Edge!) and I hand-picked some no-fail paint colors that will work in any space in your home. NO.FAIL. For real. You won't have regrets!
The Perfect Gray: Manor House Gray By Farrow & Ball
My fabulous interior designer Lindsay Rhodes introduced me to this color. A lot of times grays can pull too green or too blue or too purple depending on the light that comes in the room or your furniture, but this one stays consistent all the time. A true gray! No matter what time of day, the paint looks the same. Farrow & Ball is a little bit more expensive than some other paint lines, but in this case it's worth it for the perfect, elegant, consistent gray.
April also loves Amazing Gray by Sherwin-Williams (for a lighter gray hue) and Sedate Grey by Sherwin Williams if you are looking for the perfect khaki-gray.
The Perfect White: All White by Farrow & Ball and Pure White by Sherwin Williams (It's a tie!)
I absolutely love crisp, white walls. You really can't go wrong with the chic aesthetic of white (if you want to sass it up a bit, paint the trim in a different finish - for example, if your walls are a matte or eggshell finish, paint the trim in a gloss or high gloss finish) We used All White by Farrow & Ball in our home because it's a completely pure white. April's home is painted Pure White and is equally chic and (as the name states!) a true, "pure" white. In case you are catching a trend here, sometimes paint colors can have hints of different hues within each shade that can throw off the whole mojo. These two shades of white feel warmer than a stark white (i.e., they are a little less serial killer or doctor's office, but they both still feel clean & crisp.)
April also loves Alabaster by Sherwin Williams, Simply White by Benjamin Moore, and White Dove by Benjamin Moore. All of these colors are creamier whites as opposed to the more purse whites with cool tones. They are incredibly versatile and go with anything!
The Perfect Dark: In The Midnight Hour by Benjamin Moore
This rich, dark blue (it's almost navy) is great for a space that you want to feel cozy & intimate. The majority of our home is white, but we painted our library this rich hue in a lacquer finish to give it a masculine & cozy feel. My husband uses this room as a writing room whenever he has songwriters over and it just oozes moody inspiration (It's where he wrote the title track to his "Golden" album!)
April also loves Caviar by Sherwin Williams (it's the shade in her personal bedroom!). It's a rich, black hue that is sexy & intimate and perfect for a glam powder room or a master bedroom. She also uses Outerspace & Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams for eye-catching accent pieces like bookshelves or furniture.
And there you have it! You cannot go wrong with any of these paints, Womanistas. They are the perfect shades to accent your fabulous homes!
