Very shortly after the news that Thomas Gibson would be leaving Criminal Minds for good broke on Friday, the star made a statement addressing his feelings on the matter.
“I love ‘Criminal Minds’ and have put my heart and soul into it for the last twelve years,” he said in a statement given to TheWrap. “I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”
Gibson was originally suspended for two episodes after he reportedly kicked a writer on set while he was directing an episode for season 12 of the show. He also responded to the suspension news, saying the altercation occurred after the writer became "aggressive."
“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement,” the actor told TheWrap. “I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and always will.”
Unfortunately, it seems as though the matter was not resolved, and instead resulted in Gibson being let go permanently from the CBS fan favorite. CBS has issued a statement saying the details of the character's departure from the show are being determined and will be announced at a later date.
