fashionABLE Scarves

I’m a total scarf person. It’s the easiest way to give your standard outfit a pop of color, texture, and chicness. Regular jeans and a tshirt? Just add a luxe scarf and some fab earrings and you’ve got yourself a show-stopper. I also know that all of you womanistas like to look great – but looking great AND doing something great for the world is icing on a fashionable cake! (pun intended!)

fashionABLE is just that type of “icing”. When I first discovered this awesome company (helmed by one of the most stylish women I know, Amber Lehman!) I was so impressed with the great designs and textures of each scarf and couldn’t wait to pick up as many as I could fit in my virtual shopping cart. Each scarf is handmade by one of the women in the “fashionABLE” program in Africa, and is named for each woman who creates her scarf. You can even read about each woman’s journey to scarf-making on the website.

Here is the beautiful Feleku in her signature scarf

The “Feleku” comes in several colors (and this spring, she added some blush tones – I’m obsessed with blush right now! Thanks, Feleku!) But one of the most special bonuses of each fashionABLE scarf is that you get a handwritten note from each woman telling you exactly how your purchase is helping them. For instance, Feleku says “Because of you, I am ABLE to face new challenges. Thank you, Feleku” – how fabulous is that? Each design is luxe and different, and my favorites include the “Feleku”, “Saba”, and the “Dember”.

Here is a pic of the fabulous Saba sitting at her loom, weaving a scarf that could be yours!

With fashionABLE, you are not only getting a gorgeous, fashion-forward accessory for your wardrobe, but you are also helping women leave behind poverty, prostitution, and gain valuable life skills that allow them to create economic growth for their community and themselves. Do good, feel good, look good. What is more fashionABLE than that??

Happy shopping & happy helping, womanistas.

xo, the Womanista
