The episode, titled "Sick Day," was the second episode of the series' twelfth season, and heavily featured actress A.J. Cook's character J.J. as she recounted a disturbing case to her husband.
The rest of the BAU team was seen discussing the case around a conference table, with Gibson's limited dialogue including asking for data from Penelope (Kirsten Vangsness) and instructing J.J. to take a week off. His final line on the series was, "It’s not a request."
Gibson was fired from the CBS drama after getting into an altercation with one of the show's writers in July. Gibson, who allegedly kicked the writer, was placed on leave and later fired by ABC Studios. The show was filming "Sick Day" when the altercation occurred.
"It seems like they're trying to erase me from the show. That hurts. But I'm using this time to be with my kids, and I look forward to what's next," Gibson recently told PEOPLE . "Maybe I'll do a comedy, or a play, or direct, or produce."
Criminal Minds airs Wednesdays, 9 p.m. on CBS.
