Sister Wives began the new year with a bang.

According to PEOPLE, on Sunday night's episode, Kody and Meri Brown's 21-year-old daughter, Mariah, revealed to her parents — including the three other sister wives — that she identified as a lesbian.

"I'm gay," she revealed to her family, who were stunned by the news.

The college student later tweeted our her thanks to everyone who showed their support for her after the episode aired on TLC.

"wow okay y'all making me cry with your support. thank you thank you thank you thank you," she wrote alongside two emojis and a pride flag symbol.

The family closely aligns their faith to Fundamentalist Mormonism, which doesn't approve of homosexuality; however, the Browns previously said in a 2013 interview that everyone should be able to "structure" their family "in any way they want," whether they are gay or straight.

Mariah's news comes after mom Meri made headlines for admitting she'd previously been tricked into an online relationship with a woman, whom she thought was a man. Since that scandal made waves, Meri and Kody have been working on repairing their family, even entering therapy to deal with the emotional fallout of the catfishing scandal.
