Medical examiners have ruled Northwestern basketball player Jordan Hankins’ death a suicide by hanging, according to PEOPLE.
Hankins was found dead in her dorm room on Monday afternoon. The 19-year-old was a sophomore in the Weinberg College of Arts and Science at the university.
“We are heartbroken and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jordan Hankins. Our love and thoughts are with her family, teammates and friends,” Jim Phillips, Vice President for Athletics and Recreation, said in a written statement. “Jordan made a dramatic impact on our Wildcats community.”
Her brother, Jared Hankins, and her parents, Walter and Felicia Hankins, watched Jordan play in a game last week at Northwestern.
“We talked for the last time a week ago and everything seemed good,” Jared told the Indy Star. “She was happy.”
He added, she “was my role model.”
