This Is Us fans learned early on in the series that star Milo Ventimiglia's character, Jack Pearson, is dead in the show's present-day action, and viewers have been bracing themselves for the emotionally traumatizing moment every since. According to Ventimiglia, however, they'll have to wait a little longer.
The actor spoke to Us Weekly Video recently to give an update on when fans would see Jack's demise play out on screen, revealing that Jack's death scene hasn't been filmed yet.
"No, we're a ways off," Ventimiglia said, meaning Jack's death definitely won't appear in season 1 of the show.
Ever since news of Jack's death hit, the Internet has been coming up with a crazy number of theories as to how he died, and while Ventimiglia isn't familiar with many of them, he appreciates fans' imaginations.
"What I appreciate is that audiences are interested, and they're thinking, they're thinking, they're thinking," said the 39-year-old actor. "If there's one thing that I always hoped our show could do, [it's] get people to think — impart change in their life, impart positivity."
As for when that death does happen, Ventimiglia knows that fans will be devastated.
"I don't think it's scaleable — I really don't think it's scaleable," he said when asked how sad fans will be when Jack dies. "It's one of those things that [series creator] Dan Fogelman [does where] you're making people fall in love with Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and the relationship with these kids and everything, that I really feel people are going to be crushed when that moment comes."
This Is Us airs on NBC Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST.
