A few months ago, Andy Sealy discovered a lump on her breast after doing a self-exam. Her doctors found three tumors in both breasts and two of them in her left breast were malignant, PEOPLE reports.
She made a quick decision to remove both breasts. “The doctor said the one tumor is on your aerola and the other takes up a quadrant of your breast so it basically takes up the whole thing,” Sealy, 37, told PEOPLE. “I said, ‘Well you can have it. And while you’re at it, take the other.’ ”
The sales representative and part-time bartender scheduled her double mastectomy for March 8 and immediately started planning a pink-themed farewell party for her breasts, which she named “Ta-Ta to Andy’s Tatas.”
“Tata is like goodbye,” she says. “It just made sense. So I used that for the invite. And my father made the sign for the party.”
She invited 200 of her closest friends to bop, a Philadelphia restaurant, for the party on March 5. In her Facebook invite, she said, “I’m not sad so please don’t say sorry. Remember…IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE!”
The party was a huge success and almost everyone attended. “I got a bigger response than I expected,” says Sealy. “It was overwhelming. All my worlds were colliding. Everyone from different pieces of my life were in one room. It was amazing.”
“It was fun,” she added. “There was a really good vibe. No tears. It was happy, lighthearted.”
