Nearly 20 years after Princess Diana's death, there are still rumors circulating about her personal life, one of which alleges that the princess' former lover, James Hewitt, is the father of Diana's younger son, Prince Harry.
Hewitt has forcefully denied the rumors in the past and alleged that he met Diana when Harry was a toddler, and he addressed the rumors once again during an interview on Sunday Night when he was asked, "Are you Harry's father?"
"No, I'm not," E! News reports Hewitt as saying.
"Why does that keep getting repeated?" interviewer Melissa Doyle inquired.
"Sells papers," Hewitt answered. "It's worse for him probably, poor chap."
Hewitt, who was a polo player, began working as Diana's horseback riding instructor in 1986. The two began an affair, which Diana later admitted to.
"I adored him," she said during her BBC1 Panorama interview in 1995. "I was in love with him, but I was very let down."
At the time, rumors were also swirling that Diana's husband, Prince Charles, was seeing his now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana and Hewitt ended their affair after it was exposed in the media.
"I don't regret [the affair]," Hewitt said during the interview. "I regret some of the things that have been caused by that but not that at all. No way."
"I think she was quite easy to fall in love with really, so I think I can be forgiven for that," he added. "I did [love her]. That's why it's difficult to talk about it really, but I did."
