A nail salon in Memphis, Tennessee has come under fire after a sign was allegedly posted inside the establishment charging overweight customers more for their pedicures, WREG reports.
Customer Deshania Ferguson posted the image to Facebook on March 11, calling the sign "so rude."
“Sorry but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists," the sign reads.
Son Nguyen, the salon's owner, denied that the sign was ever posted in his establishment, but admitted he had been thinking of putting up a similar missive. When WREG visited the salon, they didn't see a sign.
"Did you at one point have the sign up? " asked reporter Shay Arthur.
"No. I told you, I said I’m thinking but I don’t put it up," responded Nguyen.
Arthur also showed Nguyen a photo of the sign in a salon with matching floors and chairs, but the owner insisted "it could be anywhere."
He said that instead of a sign, he decided not to serve overweight customers because it’s difficult for technicians to give them pedicures and he has suffered from broken chairs which have cost him money. Nguyen added that customers have gotten upset with him over the policies.
