It’s been a few months since Laurie Hernandez won the coveted Mirror Ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars, but the Olympic gymnast and athlete still keeps in touch with her ballroom buddies, including reigning champ, Val Chmerkovskiy.
While he might be busy dancing his toes off this season with Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei, Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy are sharing with fans that they are still the best of friends.
On Friday, Chmerkovskiy took to Instagram to share an adorable video of Hernandez singing a Russian song by acclaimed bard, Alexander Yakovlevich Rosenbaum — a tune the 31-year-old professional dancer had her listen to no doubt during their rehearsals together.
Chmerkovskiy captions, “Just got a text from [Laurie Hernandez] singing the lyrics of the legendary [Alexander Rosenbaum]… I had to share, cause this by far is my proudest moment as her teacher.”
With a spot-on accent and annunciation, Hernandez is definitely a quick learner and proof that Chmerkovskiy taught her well.
This past winter, the dancing pro shared an Instagram post about how much he would miss playing the older brother to his “lil nugget” and noted how “very proud of the young leader” he was.
