Earlier today, Disney announced that The Lion King would hit theaters on July 19, 2019. The Jon Favreau adaptation has already cast Donald Glover as Simba, and the studio just revealed their hilarious casting decisions for his counterparts, Timon and Pumbaa.
Aside from the three friends, the only other character that has been cast is Simba's father, Mufasa. James Earl Jones will voice that character, just as he did in the original animated film.
Disney's live-action remake of The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) and written by Jeff Nathanson (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), is scheduled to go into production this May.
