Kalani Watson was only 2 when Brandon Williamson started dating his mother, Porsche.

"We worked together," Williamson told Inside Edition. "We would talk for hours. I knew Kalani was very important to her. So if I loved her, I had to love him, too."

Over time, as the couple continued dating, Williamson grew to love the little boy. The couple then married in 2010.

So when 10-year-old Kalani stood at his birthday party over the weekend and nervously read from a piece of paper, Williamson lowered his head, overcome with emotion.

"Brandon Craig Williamson, will you do me the biggest favor in the world? Will you adopt me?" Kalani asked.

Naturally, Williamson cried and Kalani and his cousins wrapped the man in their arms.

"It would bring any man down," Williamson said. "I have a soft sport for family."

The couple are also expecting a baby boy, but in Williamson's eyes, that means he'll have two sons, instead of one.

"I've been there for everything, practically," Williamson said of their seven years together. "Him recognizing that, and wanting to have my last name, it meant the world to me."

Part of the weekend's birthday festivities included a box filled with blank adoption papers. Williamson plans to visit his father's grave and fill them out.

"He was the first person to ever say to me, 'That's your son,' "Williamson said of the memory.
