Shonda Rhimes sure knows how to create a finale! On Thursday night’s season 13 finale of the ABC hit, Grey’s Anatomy, audiences were hit with a gut-wrenching and unbearable cliffhanger that is setting season 14 up for some serious drama — and tears.
If you haven’t seen the finale as yet, you might want to stop right now. Spoilers are ahead...
In the Debbie Allen directed episode, “Ring of Fire,” Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) makes the heartbreaking decision to resign after admitting she has seen her fair share at Seattle Grace. After saving a young girl (Darby Camp) and setting a rapist on fire, Stephanie is at a turning point — a decision that left fans all over social media crying over their favorite character’s departure.
But that wasn’t all. Another character departed, while Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) broke news to Nathan (Martin Henderson) that Megan is back and Owen and Amelia are bringing her home.
Fans took to social media during and after the show to share their hurt and unhappiness at the season finale and subsequently, Rhimes playing with Meredith’s heart just when she and Nathan were about to start something…
Dr. Bailey Fires Minnick
One of the biggest shocks (or even welcomed) shocks of the night was when Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) fired Minnick after she forgot to check a wing for patients and tell the police about missing patients and staff. With the two under review by administration, Bailey vouched for Stephanie, who saved a child during the hospital explosion and told Minnick she was done at Seattle Grace.
And some fans were pretty pleased with the news...
Minnick hasn't been welcomed by fans since her arrival to Seattle Grace this past season. Frequently butting heads with Meredith, she was hired to revamp their surgical residency program but became a cast regular much to the upset of fans. Audiences took to Twitter tonight to express how happy they were that Dr. Bailey finally let her go.
I was soooo satisfied when Bailey stood up for everyone and fired Minnick and when Steph told Minnick to get out of her face ??#GreysAnatomy— AznivAghbabian (@AznivAghbabian) May 19, 2017
It's been a while, but Owen is finally bringing his sister, Megan home. For years, Megan was seen as missing when her helicopter flew through unprotected airspace in the battlefield. But now she is returning and fans are wondering what's next for both Owen and Nathan, who was about to start a relationship with Meredith.
I just love how happy Meredith was for Nathan, not a selfish bone in her body. #GreysAnatomy— Erin (@erindubbels) May 19, 2017
I hope it's actually Megan #GreysAnatomy— Irina (@skriverbraga) May 19, 2017
Fans are pretty mad about Dr. Stephanie Edwards' departure. Not only was she seen by audiences as one of the most selfless doctors at Seattle Grace, but the talent behind this character, Jerrika Hinton, was one social media greatly appreciated.
So are we getting a Stephanie Edwards #GreysAnatomy spin-off to follow her travelling around the world, or?— Michel Ghanem (@wtfmichel) May 19, 2017
