Pippa Middleton, the young sister to the Duchess of Cambridge, tied the knot to millionaire financier, James Matthews last weekend in an extravagant ceremony that supposedly went on until the wee hours of morning.
But after a whirlwind wedding of romantic serenity, adorable pageboys and flowers galore, the newlyweds were in definite need of an über relaxing honeymoon away from the limelight and camera flashes — and where better to celebrate marital bliss than on your own private island.
According to the Daily Mail, the couple is spending their honeymoon on a two-and-a-half-square-mile-long island in the French Polynesia, surrounded by a dazzling necklace of coral islets encircling a crystal-clear lagoon. It sounds dreamy, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because it is.
Mr. and Mrs. Matthews are spending their first days as husband and wife on the Pacific island of Tetiaroa, a resort island once owned by Hollywood icon, Marlon Brando who discovered the glittering oasis while filming, Mutiny on the Bounty in 1967.
After his death in 2004, the property was bought and built into a sumptuous eco-friendly resort that has become a great escape for celebrities thanks to its unbeatable service, privacy and oh-so-lovely view.
The island, lovingly known as “The Brando,” features 35 thatched guest villas along white sandy beaches. Every villa has its own outdoor bath, infinity pool and a perfect view for a candlelight dinner between newlyweds like Pippa and James. Because the island is eco-friendly and immersed in an abundance of nature, guests can expect seawater run A/C, solar electricity and generators powered by coconut oil.
One of the most notable suites on the resort measures at a whopping 2,600-square feet and features three bedrooms. If we had to place our bets on whereabouts the newlyweds are staying, we’d say this is the perfect spot for the two to spend their first week as a married couple.
With guests playing house in this mansion of a private space, newlyweds like Pippa and James can also indulge in its luxuriously amenities, including a private pool. However, if you’re looking to hit up this gorgeous sanctuary, the price is pretty steep at an average $11,000 per night.
When it comes to dining, the resort is home to two deluxe restaurants, including Le Grand Véfour, overseen by acclaimed chef, Guy Martinsky, who formerly worked at a Michelin two-star restaurant in Paris. Offering room service and a scrumptious menu, it’s no wonder celebrities and royalty, including the Obamas, loved this fully furnished island’s accommodations.
After all the months of wedding planning, it’s only natural the Matthews will want to indulge in the finer things during their honeymoon. While their meals are served most elegantly, the two might be spending a lot of their time at the Varua Te Ora Polynesian Spa, a unique haven of tranquility nestled on a restful pond in the heart of the islet of Tetiaroa.
The hidden oasis, offering stunning views over 2,000 square miles of natural landscape is no stranger to the Royal family who used to retreat here to relax and indulge in its beauty rituals.
If the Matthews are thrill seekers, they will love the plethora of activities that offer fun in the sun at a very luxe level. Here, you don’t just observe nature — you’re immersed in it and the newlyweds will benefit from every activity offered by the resort.
From snorkeling in the coral gardens and lagoon, to exploration of the island by kayak, to even checking out the couples’ scuba lessons, there is a lot to be dazzled by.
It’s been reported that after their sunny, beachside escape, the Matthews will be heading to the Highlands in Scotland, where James’ father currently holds
Between spending time at The Brando and Scotland, we think a two-week long honeymoon is precisely what a couple that spent months planning the wedding of their dreams would need.
