Watch: Jimmy Kimmel Gives High School Valedictorian the Chance to Finish His Speech

| Trending News

During Peter Butera's valedictorian speech at his high school graduation over the weekend, the teen went off-script and criticized what he considers to be an overly authoritative administration at Wyoming Area High School. Butera's mic was cut off and he was approached by the school's principal and asked to leave the stage, which he did to thunderous applause from his fellow students.

Butera told The Times-Tribune that he ultimately got his point across, but thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, the senior class president got a chance to finish his speech.

In a video call, Butera noted that he went off-script from the speech he had handed in because he knew the administration wouldn't allow the Villanova University-bound student to say what he wanted to.

In his speech, Butera said that he hopes he and his classmates will "go on to do great things in this world and achieve true happiness and success."

After Butera concluded his speech, Kimmel encouraged him to "keep being a pain in the ass."
