Congrats to Allyson Harris of Nashville, TN! Allyson shared a wonderful story about how her girlfriends from all areas of her life (and in various parts of the country) helped her walk through a difficult time with endless support, love, laughter, & grace.
But womanistas, I got SO MANY incredible entries it was SERIOUSLY almost impossible to pick. One thing I learned from reading everyone’s kind, inspiring stories is that girlfriends REALLY MATTER. As one fabulous womanista stated, we get to “do life” together. We understand each other. We walk through the tough stuff together, & we cheer each other on when life is great. In a world where the “mean girl” sometimes gets a lot of attention, it’s nice to know that so many of you have a strong, close-knit community of girlfriends to “do life” with when it matters.
Here are a few inspiring snip-its from entries that I received – lots of love to everyone & happy Friday!
“I can’t recall a time in my life I’ve felt more free and fulfilled, stronger and empowered, loved and respected and so much more. And I give all the credit to this little group of girls we have and hold so dear. We all get homesick for one another if it’s been too long and are quick to set up some time as soon as the need strikes. Never a dull moment and never one where you could possibly feel alone. Some people might hate that…but for me, it’s made me forever grateful for these girls I call my friends.” – Kara
“My girlfriends are there for me through thick and thin (literally: skinny to fat to skinny and back again). They don’t care if I get wrinkles. They don’t care if I cant cook, because they can’t cook either. They are always there if I need a laugh or a cry and vice versa. They are there for me physically, emotionally and spiritually whenever I need them.
And of course… they are always there to share a bottle of wine or two :)” – Brenda
“We all have friends that keep us true to who we are and Morgan is that person to me. I strongly believe that good friends shape the people we are and who we wish to become! Life throws us all curves and but it’s how we deal with them that truly define our character. Morgan’s character shines through in everything she does for others.” – Brooke
