6 Easy DIY Household Items

| Living

Whoever said that you have to pay the big bucks for simple household items that you can easily make yourself? Cleaning and beauty supplies can get pricey, especially when you have to buy them over and over again. Save yourself some money and check out our list of six household items you can make yourself.

Makeup remover pads

Materials needed:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp no-tears baby shampoo
  • 1/8 tsp baby oil (or olive oil)
  • Round cotton pads
  • Small canning jar with lid

Mix water, shampoo and oil in a cup. Pour a small amount into the jar and place some of the round cotton pads into the mixture. Make sure the pads are saturated. Repeat that process until the jar is full of pads. If you have any of the mixture left over, store it for later use! (via 365(ish) Days of Pinterest)

Homemade Drano

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 gallon boiling water

Pour the baking soda down the clogged drain followed by half of the vinegar. Wait for the fizz to calm down before pouring the rest of the vinegar down the drain. In fifteen minutes, flush the remaining baking soda down the drain with the boiling water. You may need to try this a few times if you're working with an especially nasty clog, but it's still a better option than buying a bottle of Drano. (via Sweet Deals 4 Moms).
