If it were up to us, we’d rather be profusely sweating at a hardcore bootcamp class than sitting at our desk. But hey, we all need to make a living, right? When you’re tethered to your desk and have a limited lunch break, try these tips to keep your fitness goals top of mind (on your lunch break, of course). Then get your butt to the gym after 5 p.m.!

Plan your workouts for the week. It’s easy to drop off a workout regimen when you don’t have a solid plan. Write down what you want to accomplish during the week and how you plan on doing it. Remember to switch it up every once in a while to keep your muscles happy. Cardio must be done after weights. And you must take at least one full day off every week, since your body builds strength while you’re resting, not while you’re working out, according to an article in Marie Claire. Just starting out? Stay inspired. Keep your head in the game during the day, so come 5 o’clock, you’re bursting out the door ready for your workout. Social media is a great way to get motivated. Follow your favorite athlete or trainer on Twitter, join an online community for support or check out inspirational quotes on our Pinterest page.

Stretch at your desk and get up often. You’ve probably read the scary reports of how sitting at your desk will pretty much kill you. Keep a timer handy, and make a point to get out of your seat every 30 minutes. Ditch the elevator for the stairs, and power-walk on your lunch break. Stretching at your desk releases tension and prevents pains and tightness.

Window-shop during your lunch break. Power-walk your way to that sporting goods store near your office and check out the new merch. You don’t have to buy anything. Just being around exercise-related clothing will keep exercise on the brain.

Research deals in your area. Mixing up your workout keeps you focused and happy. Check out daily deals on Groupon, Google or Active.com. They always have interesting workouts you can try on the cheap. Search in the area where you work so you can go before or after work.
