I feel like in the week post-labor day, people have a new found energy. This time of year always feels like a new beginning, with the laziness of summer beginning to fade away and people’s sights getting set on the new season with a fresh perspective. I’m thrilled to spend this week in New York where the energy is really palpable (and not to mention, umm, it’s Fashion Week!!!)
Here is what I’m totally loving this week:
Fashion’s Night Out: This is one of my absolute favorite nights of the entire year! Fashionistas around the globe get to celebrate being glam with cocktails, music, and of course gorgeous designs. Plus, we get to honor many designers’ hard work by telling them “you are amazing!” in person. Check out the event listings to see what retailers are throwing parties near you! I promise, you will have fun. I will be celebrating this year at Haven in Franklin, TN with the rock n’ roll fashions of Chaser & a glass of champagne. Cheers!
“Perfectly Unique” by Annie Downs: My dear, kind, fantastic friend and blogging mentor, Annie Downs, is releasing an incredible book today, entitled “Perfectly Unique” – it is a brilliant guide for teen girls (and ladies in their twenties! I was lucky enough to get an advance copy and have taken copious notes!) about loving yourself, just as you are, the way God made you. Annie speaks/writes in a way that makes you want to listen. She’s honest, funny, and captivating, and her story is a meaningful read. Pick this one up for all of the girls in your life that you love.
Planning my husband’s birthday: Last year was the big shebang – his 30th – and he marked it by singing the national anthem at the New York Jets game on the 10th anniversary of September 11th, followed by an incredible meal with our dearest friends at Catch in NYC. This year he has made some SERIOUSLY diva demands! He would like a meal that includes grilled corn, and he would like to eat it in front of the TV. I mean, D-I-V-A. I’m planning a few more surprises (but if you are reading this, husband, just relax I won’t go overboard!)
IFB Conference: It starts today! My inaugural fashion blogging conference is currently underway in NYC, as you are reading this. You can follow me on twitter @WomanistaStyle and on Instagram @Womanista to check out what is going on. Highlights for me include panels with The Glamourai, The Glitter Guide, The Cut, and hearing the gorgeous, iconic, & fabulous Iman speak. Holy Awesome.
Goat Cheese, Basil, & Tomato Baguette Sandwiches from “The Afternoon Off”: This blog is gorgeous and is run by the equally gorgeous Holly Williams (her store, H. Audrey, is one of my favorites in Nashville!) She is also an amazing singer/songwriter – who happens to cook like a goddess. This recipe looks AMAZING and so simple & delicious. It’s the perfect comfort food for the final days of summer.
Happy Fashion Week, womanistas!
