Womanista Beauty: ASCAP Awards Glam

Last night I got to accompany my fabulous husband to the ASCAP Awards in Nashville (along with his bandmate, Dave & his awesome wife, Kelli!) The ASCAP awards honor the composers & publishers of the songs you hear every day on the radio. It’s so much fun to sit back and listen to the great songs that were played on country radio last year (and it’s REALLY special to hear the songwriters sing them!) And getting glammed up to go to the awards is always fun every year.

Here is a pic of me, pre-glam (fresh-faced & washed hair!)

For my look, I wanted to go with a little sexiness. I was inspired by this photo of Angelina Jolie for my hair (I mean really, does it get any sexier than big, voluminous, hair??) The incredible Earl Cox of Trumps Salon on Nashville got to work on creating some MEGAWATT locks for me. I L-O-V-E-D it.

…that’s Earl behind me working his magic! He blow-dried my hair at the roots to give it volume, then snapped in my hair extensions. After that, he curled it all with a 1.5-inch barrel curling iron and then secured the top part of my hair with velcro rollers (for even MORE volume) and the bottom of my hair with clips to create “pin curls”

For my makeup, I wanted to go with all-out fabulous. I asked Mary Beth Felts to give me a seriously smoky eye, contoured cheeks, and a nude lip. I wanted DRAMA (with my makeup, not in life!)

Mary Beth lined my eyes with black liner (on the inner water line & also on my lash line) and then used a metallic shadow to create a smoky effect on my lower lash line. She then used a trio of shadows to create smoky contours on my upper lids (plus more liner!) After that she curled my lashes & added mascara…and then came my false eyelashes!

These RIDIC amazing lashes are the “Hollywood” lashes from Smoke & Mirrors beauty. They are wispy, full, and uber-glam.

And VOILA! My final hair & makeup look! I loved it & felt awesome! (A HUGE thanks to Earl & Mary Beth, who are absolute magicians!)

And I also LOVED my mini-dress by Parker! It’s from Rent The Runway (so if you love it, you can wear it too!)

xo, the Womanista

PS – I can’t WAIT to share my glam for the CMA Awards this year! I’m REALLY excited about my gown! :-)

Love this look! I want my hair to look like that! haha. Do you normally have other people do your hair and makeup for events or do you ever do it yourself too?

Can you have Earl and Mary Jane do a video ‘how to’ on this?? :)

I always want to thank and hug Mary Beth, she is the reason I’m so good at make up – especially the eyes… all the times working with your Mom and clients, I just sat back after setting up/steaming/grabbing god-knows-what and watched her work her magic. Next time you see her, tell her I’m carrying her skill and beauty all the way to the brides and “celebs” of Carmel :)

    *Gorgeous btw.

Isn’t she the BEST, Amanda?! I will tell her you are making her proud! xxx

Wow, they say that perfection comes from a blank sheet, but how gorgeous are you without make-up to..it’s not even fair Cassie;) Share some with me please?

And you looked stunning al glammed to! You actually looked a bit like Kimberly in TBP on the picture where your hair and make-up is just done.

Btw, does it hurt to get the false eye-lashes off? I have never tried it before so I’m very curious… because I’m quite the “blinker” when I have mascara on (yeah, well I’m a make-up analphabet so I almost never wear it)..

So pumped to see your CMA look, you ALWAYS look so fab, with and without make-up;)

    • Woman November 6, 2013 at 2:58 pm #

Well, thank you, Veronica! Kimberly Perry is absolutely gorgeous, so that’s quite a compliment! False lashes don’t hurt to take off, they are stuck on with lash glue & you just peel them right off :-) xx

  13. Stacey November 5, 2013 at 7:18 pm #

You looked amazing Cass!! Love the false lash recommendation – I’ve been looking into getting some that look glam but not drag queen glam!

    • Woman November 5, 2013 at 8:09 pm #

Thanks, Stacey! They are the PERF “super-glam” lashes without being “drag show” lashes. I’m obsessed.

  14. Brooke Pitts November 5, 2013 at 7:09 pm #

Amazing!! So Earl didn’t tease your hair at all? The rollers alone gave your hair that much volume?!

    • Woman November 5, 2013 at 8:11 pm #

Correct, Brooke! Just those velcro rollers & a SH*T TON of hairspray :-) I had straight-up Texas hair! xx

      • Brooke Pitts November 5, 2013 at 8:16 pm #

        Buying some velcro rollers ASAP!

  15. Cara November 5, 2013 at 7:06 pm #

Gorgeous, as always. But I am even jealous of how pretty you are with just clean skin and hair, which is a good reminder that taking care of the skin to start helps at all times, from grocery shopping to getting glammed up like you did for the ASCAP awards. Basically, I love these posts where you show all the steps to getting red-carpet ready.

    • Woman November 5, 2013 at 8:13 pm #

Thanks, Cara! And I have found an INCREDIBLE moisturizer that I am religious about slathering on my face at night. It has seriously changed the texture & tone of my skin (Mary Beth even made a comment about it yesterday when she was applying my makeup!) It’s the Moisturizing renewal cream by ReVive. It’s not cheap, but is so so great. I’ll do an upcoming post about it! xo
