Womanista Beauty: Beach Beauty Essentials

If any of you womanistas are like me, you are already tired of the cold, wintery weather (and I know some of you had some serious snow over Christmas!) I am getting ready to say “sayonara” to these winter temps and bask in the glow of a sunny beach to welcome in the New Year. Looking beautiful on a beach vacation should be fairly effortless, but some all-star products can really make your beauty routine a breeze! Here are a few of my favorites:

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: Y’all. I seriously cannot say enough great things about this product! As a devotee to Dry Shampoo (The disdain I have for washing my hair knows no bounds, and yes I realize this is slightly gross…) this product is better. Yes, better. It gives you all of the benefits of a dry shampoo (absorbing oils, giving some volume, etc) but without the powdery residue, and it also amps up volume to the max, AND gives your hair a beautiful, beachy texture.

This dry texturizing spray is perfect for everyday use, but is really great for a beach vacation. You can spend a day soaking up the sun and sea, then give your hair and roots a few sprays with this in the evening, followed by a few turns of a curling iron and voila. Stunning, beachy waves, ready for a night out!

MDSolarSciences SPF 30 Mineral Tinted Gel: A friend introduced me to this sunscreen & skincare line and I have been obsessed ever since. It’s the first and only sun protection line that’s developed by physicians with a primary focus to prevent skin cancers. At this point in our lives, we all (hopefully!) know that slathering on tanning oil and baking in the sun is (really, REALLY) bad for us. Especially for naturally fair-skinned people like myself.

Protecting your skin from the sun should be a priority every day, because your skin is your best accessory (no one wants to have wrinkles that make you look older than you really are!) This mineral tinted gel is like a great tinted moisturizer – it’s lightweight, evens out your skin tone, and gives you a hint of color – all while blocking harmful rays and protecting your beautiful skin from dangerous skin cancers. Plus, it won’t clog your pores and it’s super-water resistant. It’s one of my #1 beach products.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Mineral bronzer in “Park Avenue Princess”:  I absolutely love this bronzer. Since I won’t actually be tanning my face (see previous product!), this bronzer gives me the perfect sun-kissed glow with a hint of shimmer. It’s long wearing, and doesn’t feel heavy at all. Plus, it’s a mineral-based product so it actually improves your skin’s tone as you wear it and it won’t clog your pores.

If you REALLY want to work your bronze while at the beach, Tarte also has a great body bronzing product. It’s a waterproof formula that goes on streak-free. I use it along my collarbone for a hint of color, and sometimes on my legs if I’m wearing a skirt or dress and have pasty skin (which is usually always the case) and haven’t gotten around to getting a spray tan. It’s perfect if you are in a “pale” pinch!

Bond No. 9 “Nuits de Noho”: This is one of the sexiest, spiciest fragrances on the planet. If the essence of Miami, LA, and St. Barts were bottled into one, it would be this scent. It’s the perfect spritz for evening cocktails on a beach vacation. It captures “sultry” without trying too hard, and still has an air of femininity.

This is also the one perfume that my husband notices (and compliments!) every time I wear it. Bond No. 9 fragrance is expensive, but each scent is truly special. Plus, the bottle lasts a really long time! This is really one of my absolute faves.

Happy almost New Year, womanistas! And if you are traveling somewhere fun for the dawn of 2013, tweet me pics @WomanistaStyle!
