The CMA Awards added glitz and glam to the downtown Nashville skyline last night! It was such a fun show, and I was super impressed with everyone’s FAB red carpet looks (Did you SEE Carrie Underwood? Ridiculously gorgeous. And Taylor Swift. Gorge. And don’t even get me started on Faith Hill!! She is ageless and beautiful!)
I decided to amp up my red carpet hair & makeup and step a little bit outside of my comfort zone (which resides firmly in the “loose waves, smokey eye, nude lip” category!) The fabulous and talented Earl Cox of Trumps Salon and Mary Beth Felts used their artistry on me once again, and I LOVED my look! I was going for “Modern, Youthful, Retro” – here are some pics!
Earl and I decided to create a modern, red carpet take on the “Birds Nest Bun” – he started by teasing and backcombing my own hair and the crown, and clipping in some hair extensions (that clipped in my hair in a ponytail shape). After that, he pulled all of that hair into a ponytail and gave it a grandiose dose of hair spray. He then teased all of my hair some more until it had a “birds nest” like consistency/rattiness. (sounds lovely, I know…)
After we had a teased ponytail to work with, Earl started wrapping sections of hair around the crown of my head, and securing each piece with a bobby pin.
After all of the teased pieces were secured in a bun shape, Earl clipped in a braided hair extension around the perimeter (I loved it!) He then smoothed everything down with some pomade and BANGSTYLE Flexible Hold Hairspray so that it would hold all night but not feel too stiff (and it did! We joked that I would have this hairstyle through the weekend…I slowly unratted it at about 3AM. Sigh.)
For my makeup, I was inspired by this Emma Stone red carpet look (how fab is she??) I loved the cool, modern feel of the fuschia lip and the winged eye. Mary Beth used a combo of MAC products to create my hot pink pout – she started with MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in “Show Orchid” which is vivid and bright. She then glossed over it with MAC Lipglass in “Pink Poodle” to create a shimmering pink shine. She completed my look with a subtle pink blush, rich black eye liner and lots of mascara and eyelashes. I wore the “Heart” lashes from Smoke & Mirrors again!
Here is a a shot in the car en route to the arena for the show. I got changed in our dressing room at the arena, but my hair and makeup were red carpet ready at 2PM (so early…I had to not move for about 3 hours so I wouldn’t mess anything up!)
My husband and I backstage at the CMA Awards! (His Viktor & Rolf suit was amazing! Hottie.) I was also SUPER excited to wear this GORGEOUS dress from Catherine Deane. The entire skirt portion is long black fringe (so fab!) and the tulle and embellished detail on the bodice are so chic and feminine.
Our whole group on the red carpet. SUCH a fun night with fabulous people. Congrats to all of the winners!!
