Womanista Beauty: Dry Shampoo

I have a dirty little secret. I rarely wash my hair (I know, so gross!) but according to my colorist, it’s definitely what’s best for my hair – the fewer washes, the better – in order to leave it healthy and moisturized. Years of bleach have left my locks fragile and frizzy (doesn’t that sound just gorgeous??) so i’m forced to stay away from the shampoo. I suds up about 2 times a week (at the most. And let’s be honest, that also makes my daily routine a LOT less time-consuming.) With that said, I certainly don’t want to walk around with greasy hair a la Heidi Klum sporting the “wet look”.

My hair lives and dies by Dry Shampoo. It is the most genius, lazy-girls tool EVER! Just spray a few sprays on your roots and Voila! It soaks up oils from your scalp, leaving your hair looking (and smelling!) fresh as a daisy. It also gives your hair enviable texture, making it easy to style and adding volume. Dry Shampoo is seriously a miracle product for ladies who like to go a few days between washes.

My favorite dry shampoo product (and I’ve tried MANY) is KMS California Hair play “Makeover Spray”. It is super light weight, gives your hair beachy texture & volume without looking messy, and smells really yummy. Plus, it retails for less than $15! It also lasts for a long time. I once used it on a Friday evening and by Sunday morning, my hair still looked fresh & fabulous!

If you have frazzled locks like me, and want to give them a break from everyday shampooing, meet your new best friend, dry shampoo! Do you have any other favorite dry shampoos, womanistas? Let me know!

Happy dry shampooing, womanistas!

I would love to wash my hair less often but I find it goes limp and a bit gross after a day or so.
I’m a brunette and worried about dry shampoo giving me a white powdery residue. Any ideas I could try to beat that?

P.S Great work challenging the taboo of not washing your hair every day!:)

Hey Katie! Bumble & Bumble make a “brown hair” dry shampoo, that is actually brown. Honestly though, a great product doesn’t leave your hair too white (and you should tousle it into your roots after spraying it) KMS hairplay is super light and won’t leave any white, powdery residue. Not washing it every day will honestly change your hair! It’s awesome!! xx

I will most definitely try this! I only wash my hair twice a week as well and haven’t found a dry shampoo I love. Thanks for the tip!

Clearly I live for Dry Shampoo (get serious). I too, have tried about 10 different brands and stick to KMS! Gotta give the Womanista some props on this one. Who can’t appreciate a post on how not washing your hair is fabulous?

    Thanks Womanista!
