Womanista Beauty: Facial Moisturizers for Fall

I have really complicated skin (le sigh!) I’m 29, getting wrinkles, breaking out, and my skin always gets dull and gross in the cold weather. (Sorry, skin, but I’m just speaking the truth!)

For the past few years I always transitioned my dewy, summer skin into the cold weather with a rich, emollient moisturizer that somehow managed to combat all of the weather changes and keep my skin luminous. This miracle moisturizer was Dear John by Benefit Cosmetics. Well, as the season begins to change, my skin is now in mourning because Benefit has DISCONTINUED Dear John!! UGH. major ugh.

I’m back to square one and on the hunt for an equally miraculous facial moisturizer, and I’ve found a few gems that I wanted to share with you womanistas!

Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil + Argan illuminizer: Ok, so this is two products. But the combo results in gorgeous, glowing skin. Josie Maran Argan Oil is famous for enriching your pores with loads of vitamin E & minerals, which helps cell turnover and heals & conditions your skin. It’s also awesome for your hair, nails, etc!

Partner that with the Argan illuminizer to brighten skin (and it also has a hint of bronzer!) to leave you glowing and flawless. Plus it’s totally organic so you can feel good about what you are putting on your skin, and what you are doing for the environment in the process.

Aveeno “Smart Essentials” Daily Nourishing Moisturizer with SPF 30: This light-weight formula protects your skin from sun exposure and free radicals, while also repairing it with essential vitamins & minerals. It leaves your skin feeling soft, smooth, and beautiful.

It’s a great every day option for a big dose of moisture, while also protecting your skin with SPF 30. Plus, you can pick it up at your local drugstore at a super-reasonable price.

La Mer “Creme de la Mer from La Mer”: This is the Rolls Royce of facial moisturizers (I don’t even really think I should call it just a facial moisturizer because it is so much more than that…) It strengthens, smooths, illuminates, and enriches your skin.

The caveat? It’s $150 for 1 oz. I know. Ridiculous. And cringe-worthy. But that’s why I called it the Rolls Royce – luxury with a mega price tag! If you can swing it though, it’s totally worth it and your skin will never look better.

What about you, womanistas? What facial moisturizers are your favorites during the colder months? What else should I try on my quest to replace the love I have for “Dear John”?

xo, the Womanista

Ole Henriksen. Vitamin C products. Scandanavian gals have the most amazing skin. Been using for 2 years now and I hear at least once a day. “You have the most amazing skin. It glows.” Plus the day lotion is 50 spf + and completely matte.

Benefit still has an amazing moisturizer that is the vamped up formula of their old one!

Great!! What’s the name of the new product? I would love to try it out! (Since I’m seriously lamenting the loss of Dear John…)

My fool proof combo that finally cleared my skin:

    Clarisonic
    +
Blue Print Green Juice…for a boost to my 10yr old diet tendencies
    +
La Mer….I cancelled my premium cable and tell myself that the difference each month adds up to the cost of La Mer for the year.

All AWESOME suggestions, Maggie! I love my clairsonic too, and am due for a juice cleanse from Juice Nashville soon. I can tell a difference in my hair/skin/nails after some good juice :-)

I swear by anything Therapy Systems!! They make one of the only moisturizers that does not break me out. I love their “Gentle Grapefruit Scrub,” their “Daily Oil Free Moisturizer”, Their “Balancing Cleanser…” They have several awsome, deep moisturizing creams, but it’s been a year since I purchased, so I can’t remember the names off the top of my head, but I guess it’s about that time again!! Therapy Systems has a store in Nashville, and is also sold at The Cosmetic Market or on their website!! I think most of the moisturizers are in the $45-$60 range and then they have one that’s $100ish (their “Anti-aging” repairative option). All in all, their products are fabulous!!

I love therapy systems too, kerstin! I love that it’s a local Nashville brand too. I need to restock on their cleansers! Xo

A good moisturizing soap to use for the winter is Dove Nutrium Winter skin care. I love this soap. I have eczema bad and i bought a few extra bars so that it would last me for a few months because they only sell it during winter time.

I use the “eight hour cream fluide protecteur hydratation intensive IPS15″ by Elisabeth Arden.
        A must have ! Try it !
