Womanista Beauty: Kacey Musgraves “On The Road” Glam

Every once in a while a singer – an artist – comes along that is so fresh and so talented that it seems like they are on a sparkling, supersonic rocket ship to stardom. Kacey Musgraves is having that sparkling, supersonic, rocket ship moment. And womanistas, she sure is talented & deserving of the glowing spotlight. Her songwriting is bold, yet tender, and she sings about very specific places and moments and things that are somehow still universally relatable to everyone.

If you haven’t already, you should probably pick up her AH-MAY-ZING debut album, Same Trailer Different Park, (which tops the Country Albums chart this week, and bows at #2 on the all-genre Top 200 albums chart, only behind someone named Justin Timberlake…) Seriously. (Sparkling rocket ship, right??). PS – I absolutely cannot stop listening to “Silver Lining”, “Back On The Map” and “Keep it to Yourself”…

Not only is her music fab, but Kacey is gorgeous and stylish…and she stopped by Womanista to key us in on things like how she gets glowing skin on the road, where she finds quirky vintage clothing, the perfect shade of coral & what she wants her fans to know about her music!

Womanista: How do you keep your skin looking flawless on the road? With so many late nights & lots of travel, that can be tough!

Kacey Musgraves: It’s so hard to take care of skin on the road but I try. My skin is DEFINITELY not flawless, but I travel with a Clarisonic Mia brush and lately I’ve been obsessed with this all-natural face wash by Gunilla of Sweden

Womanista: Where do you pick up your fab vintage finds?

KM: Anywhere I’m on the road and see vintage clothing for sale, I make a pit stop. A couple of faves though: Dolly Python in Dallas and Katy K Designs & Old Made Good in Nashville.

Womanista: What’s your favorite “show outfit”?

KM: Something cute, comfortable AND a little retro. I love heels but the older I’ve gotten the more I realize comfort is key because when I’m comfortable, it comes across in my show. An element of sparkle never hurts either. (*Womanista side note: we agree, sister! Sparkle always wins!)

Kacey is currently touring the US, opening for Kenny Chesney!

Womanista: What’s your favorite “off duty” outfit?

KM: Jeans, flats, and an old beat up t-shirt.

Womanista: If you have an important meeting/appearance/date what is your makeup routine?

KM: I start with my St. Tropez bronzing mousse and then I do my eyes with the Urban Decay NAKED 2 palette or MAC eye shadows & eyeliners & then lashes. After that, I perfect my skin with some concealer and Face Atelier foundation, followed by Benefit cheek tint in “Cha Cha” (it’s the perfect coral color). I usually finish off my lips with a good Chapstick and nude lipstick.

Womanista: If you could tell your fans ONE thing you hope they feel when they listen to your music, what would it be?

KM: That I am one of them. I am human and I have and will continue to screw up and learn from my mistakes. If anyone out there can relate to that, then I’m a happy girl and songwriter.

Womanista: Who are your style muses?

KM: I don’t really have one style muse but I’m pretty obsessed with Nancy Sinatra. Quintessential 60′s sexpot! My style inspiration comes from all over the map and I love to mix it up. I love lots of vintage and retro touches, but with an updated quirky feel.

Kacey is the epitome of a brave, bold, beautiful, & fabulous womanista! Make sure to check out her music, if you haven’t already!!
