Womanista Beauty: The Best Mascara

There really isn’t anything worse than flaky, smeared, clumpy mascara (Ok, yes, there are worse things in life. But when it comes to beauty blunders, gross mascara is top 3!) I’ve tried a lot of different mascara…because for some reason – maybe my bottom lashes have an incredibly odd tilt, who knows! – my mascara tends to get smudgy. Not on purpose like the perfectly smudged smokey eye you see on most starlets these days, but just smudged.

With all of this field research under my belt (and by field research, I mean many exasperated nights of smudged mascara…) I found a few perfect formulas.

Here womanistas, are my top 3:

Best Overall: YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara

This blend of rich, hydrating mascara is my absolute favorite. It’s volumizing and lengthening, all in one stroke. Plus, it doesn’t flake or smudge and it lasts all day! Yes, it’s a little pricey, but worth the investment for knock-out lashes.

Best Everyday Blend: Tarte Cosmetics “Gifted” Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara

This mascara is like a vitamin for your lashes. Its unique blend of vitamins and minerals actually help improve the strength and overall health of your lashes, while lenthening and hydrating them! In just 3 weeks you can see your lashes go from drab to fab & luxurious. Seriously! Plus, it’s rich and emollient and won’t flake. The perfect recipe for gorgeous, healthy lashes.

Best Drugstore Brand: L’Oreal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara

This inexpensive beauty find is seriously hardworking. It has a super-dark formula that leaves your lashes looking lush and dramatic. I also use the waterproof version when I’m at the beach and it NEVER runs or smears. This mascara will take you from day to night in high-style, with a bargain price tag.

What about you, womanistas? What is your favorite mascara?

Let me know what you think of these!

Happy lash enhancing, womanistas!

xo, the Womanista

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote
the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some
pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog.
A fantastic read. I will definitely be back.

I have sparse lashes! I have tried everything and have fallen in love with Lancome DÉFINICILS. It works great and the wand is small enough to get all the lower lashes but big enough to make the top ones pop!

So many people love Lancome! I’ll have to try it out, too. Thank you! xo

I have used all brands from the most expensive lines to drugstore brands. By far the best is Loreal Telescopic Carbon Black mascara. It gives me “to-die-for lashes!”

I’ve use Dior, Chanel, Clinique, Benefit and probably several other brands but I always tend to go back to the drugstore Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal (the bright yellow bottle). Now my mom has been using the one you mentioned above, L’Oreal Voluminous mascara since I can remember. Now this is a little secret my mom told me… L’Oreal actually owns Lancome. L’Oreal being the parent company that owns Lancome, amongst several other of their owned companies including: Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Kiehl’s, Stella McCartney, Keratase & Pureology (great hair product btw) and several other brands. Which leads me to believe if you’ll get the same if not better results from Lancome’s maker L’Oreal at much lower prices? I’ve heard Lancome and L’Oreal are very similar but I’m sure they are different from Giorgio Armani and other luxury brands. Love all the beauty products being posted!

Thanks, Brittany! I need to try the Maybelline volum express! I also use pureology shampoo. Love it!

I have not tried these but Dior Diorshow is my fave for volume and Chanel Inimitable is amazing for definition. I will definitely have to check out the YSL!

I love the dior too, but at that price point the YSL blows it away, in my opinion :-)

Thanks for the great tip! How did you know I
Was looking for a new brand? Will let you know
    What I think.
