About a year and a half ago, my husband and I purchased our dream home in Nashville – We only looked at it once before making an offer, and I knew immediately that I wanted it to be ours. The property is what sold me almost immediately. We have sweeping magnolias, an elegant pool, and a quiet courtyard with a bubbling fountain and winding ivy. And even though the decor of the house wasn’t exactly my aesthetic upon first glance, I was instantly drawn to the soul & bones. My mind was spinning with ideas on how to make it our own!
The day that we closed I called my friend & ridiculously talented designer, Lindsay Rhodes. Lindsay and I got to work on creating a plan for the design – we wanted the house to be chic & elegant, but still warm & inviting with a fun, playful vibe. Here are a few “Before & After” photos – I am so proud of how it turned out and I wake up every single day with a thankful heart that we get to live here!
This is the living room before
The living room (aka “the ladies lounge”) now! We removed the TV cabinet and put a window back in where it was originally. I love all of the different colors & textures in this room
The kitchen before – it was nice, but a little dark & closed off for me.
Our dream kitchen! We had to take down walls to create an open entertaining space. I have always loved a white kitchen, so I went ALL THE WAY and added some glitzy touches with the carrara marble “waterfall” countertop & antique-mirrored backsplash.
Another view – the kitchen flows directly into the family room. It’s awesome for entertaining!
This was originally the formal living room…
…and it’s now our glam dining room! We updated the fireplace & had a custom dining table designed to fit the space (it’s 200 inches long!)
The library was already a cozy room featuring Italian oak cabinetry
Now it’s a cozy, swanky music room with lots of modern textures! I would have never pulled all of this together in the way that Lindsay pulled it together. She is a genius! The cabinetry is now finished with navy blue lacquer & antiqued mirror back the bookshelves. It’s the perfect place to showcase my husband’s awards.
…and that’s it, womanistas! I am so proud of our home and I think it perfectly reflects my husband and I – just like I knew it would the second I walked in it for the first time (it just needed a little elbow grease & polish!) What about you? What do you love about your home that reflects you?
