Womanista Fashion: A Perfectly Chic Travel Outfit

Kate Hudson as the ultimate groupie “Penny Lane” in “Almost Famous”

I am about to embark upon a jaunt across 8 countries, through various fabulous cities over the next month. I am tagging along with my husband on his European tour (how Kate Hudson in “Almost Famous” of me!) and I.Am.Excited. But this leads to some serious packing and some serious questions (all of which are direly important like “Do they approve of mullet dresses in Sweden??” and “Will I need something warmer than a tailored motorcycle jacket in Glasgow?”) Serious stuff here, womanistas…

Before I start my trek though, I have to select an outfit that is chic and comfortable for transcontinental travel. This can be tricky, because many of my regular go-to travel fashions aren’t exactly comfortable when it comes to sleeping on a plane. (Have you ever tried to sleep in skinny jeans? I don’t recommend it…) Plus, I’m not as brave as Madonna and willing to wear my bathrobe through the airport.

So, my transcontinental travel wardrobe must-haves are simple, chic, and comfortable enough to take a snooze in!

Nicole Richie nails it right here. She pairs a comfortable, soft t-shirt with some stretchy leggings – I really love the wunder under pant from Lululemon.

You can add a fashion-forward touch with an oversized scarf (that can also double as a pillow, blanket, or eye mask during a flight!), and either a vest or cardigan - you definitely want layers during travel, since taxi/airport/plane temps tend to vary. I also opt for ballet flats. They are easy to take off when you head through security, and give your ensemble a “put together” touch. My absolute favorites are by Lanvin (so chic!), but these by Nine West are pretty fabulous too!

The last travel wardrobe must-have is a giant, carry-all bag that can house all of your electronics, magazines, snacks, and other various travel items (my husband always throws his gear into my bag too – so I need an EXTRA large tote!)

And there you have it. Travel wardrobe chicness at its finest (courtesy of the super-glam Nicole Richie!)

What about you, womanistas? What are your travel must-haves when it comes to your wardrobe?

Happy flying to a fabulous locale, womanistas!

xo, the Womanista

I loved how you called those “neither-low-or-high” dresses a mullet dress – will have to tell my sister that the next time she wears one! I’m usually dressed to the destination I’m heading to and it gets tricky when you are flying in from a hot country to a cold country or vice versa! Have a good time in Europe and hopefully when you’re there, you’ll discover and be inspired by the fashion there too xx

Okay, yes they approve about ANYTHING in Sweden, but be sure to have some warm clothes with you, summer in Skandinavia (especially Norway and Sweden) can be cold. Not Denmark.. AND it can be rain!! They also alowes anything in Norway in clothing! Stockholm is a fashion capital, so be sure to visit some vintage shops!

I have always heard how important it is to have something to moisturize with and bring water on the plane since the tough part about flying is dry cabin air and dehydration. But of course I always forget lotion & a water bottle. Now, I absolutely never forget to have a good lip moisturizer- Either Smith’s Rosebud Salve or Burt Bees are my favorite. For lotion I might find something from Kiehl’s. (Make sure to find something TSA friendly!) =)

For my wardrobe my must have is a cardigan- always getting cold on the flight!

Such good tips, Brit! Avene hydrating spray is a must! I always spritz some on my face and apply moisturizer before landing :-)

The fact that you just called a high low a mullet dress had me laughing to myself the whole article, and I’m still giggling! I try to decide my travel outfits all the time! I normally stick with wedges, my super cozy Joe’s Jeans and a slouchy tee to stay super comfy! Have a blast in Europe Womanista, and please let us know how they feel about Mullet Dresses over there!

Ha ha, I will definitely keep you posted about the mullet dress! Have you ever worn “Mother” jeans?? They are a GREAT option for travel, too. They are super soft and fit great. xo
