Womanista Food + Drink: A “Music City Eats” Cocktail

If you haven’t noticed, I really like a delicious cocktail. And delicious food. Which is why I am SO EXCITED for the first annual Music City Eats Festival to descend upon Nashville this weekend! Some of my favorite nashville chefs (like Sarah Gavigan from Otaku South - her ramen is oh.em.gee.) as well as some seriously fabulous globally-acclaimed chefs (hello, Giada De Laurentiis!!) will be cooking up some of their signature cuisine, and pairing dishes with fine wines and spirits. I, personally, plan to be in a food-coma by the end of the day on Sunday! So in honor of this exciting festival, I whipped up a specialty cocktail that is balanced & fresh – a perfect sipper for the hot days and cool nights of early fall.

Fire + Ice Grapefruit Margarita

Ingredients (makes one cocktail):

  • Juice of one ruby red grapefruit
  • 1/4 teaspoon of raw sugar
  • 1 fresh mint leaf (chopped)
  • 2 slices of jalapeno (chopped)
  • 2 oz premium silver tequila (I used Don Julio)
  • Splash of sparkling mineral water (I used San Pellegrino)


Finely chop 2 slices of jalapeno & one mint leaf. Put them in a cocktail shaker with 1/4 teaspoon of raw sugar and muddle together. Add the juice of one grapefruit, 2 oz. of tequila, and a splash of sparkling water. Add ice to cocktail shaker, and shake for approx 30 seconds so that all ingredients are incorporated. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a mint leaf.

Add chopped jalapeno slices, chopped mint, and raw sugar to a glass or cocktail shaker and muddle together

Add the juice of one grapefruit, tequila, and a splash of sparkling mineral water

Add all ingredients and ice to a cocktail shaker, shake, and strain into a martini glass. Voila!
