Womanista Food + Drink: Blueberry & Mint Tequila Spritz

Tequila is hands down my favorite spirit during the summer months – it’s an easy sipper when mixed with ripe, fresh ingredients AND it’s the only alcohol that is a stimulant rather than a depressant (hello, fun & happy!)

Last night I whipped up this refreshing summer cocktail with a great, boutique tequila I picked up from Harvest Wine Market (absolutely love them!) and some fresh mint & blueberries. It’s a seriously FAB summer sipper! And in case you needed some extra info about why tequila is awesome, you can read this

Ingredients: (makes one cocktail)

  • 2 oz. 100% Agave silver tequila (I used Espolon)
  • A handful of blueberries
  • 3-4 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tbsp simple syrup
  • Grapefruit Perrier

Blueberry & Mint Ingredients

First, give the mint leaves a rough chop – this releases the oils of the leaf & enhances the flavor!

Chopped mint

Then add the chopped mint, blueberries, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker

Muddled Blueberries

Pour the tequila into the cocktail shaker, add ice and give the mixture a good shake! You can either pour all of the contents of the shaker into a cocktail glass (like I did – I like having the whole bits!) or you can strain the liquid into a martini glass and garnish with a mint leaf & some skewered blueberries for a more sophisticated presentation.

Top off your cocktail with some grapefruit perrier for some fresh effervescence!

Adding Perrier

And voila – CHEERS!

I really wish I liked tequila :( I do love rum and vodka, wonder how it would taste with one of those. This sounds so refreshing!
