Merry Christmas Eve, womanistas! I hope you enjoyed a weekend with family & friends, relaxing and enjoying the holiday season (and if you happen to work for FedEx, UPS, USPS, or any other shipping company, THANK YOU for your hard work!) So whether you are celebrating Christmas with a large group of family (like I am!) or just a few special, close friends, here are a few delicious cocktails to serve up and toast some cheer!
Christmas Mojito: This refreshing, festive cocktail looks as gorgeous as it tastes! New York-based celebrity caterer Andrea Correale of Elegant Affairs Caterers created this light and fresh libation, with the pomegranate bringing in some Christmas color. Plus, it’s fairly easy to craft.
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 tbsp. super fine sugar
8 fresh mint leaves
2 oz. white rum
2 tsp. pomegranate seeds
4 oz. Pomegranate 7UP
1 mint sprig
Directions: Muddle together in bottom of a glass the following – sugar, lime juice, and mint leaves. Add ice to the glass. Pour in rum and pomegranate 7UP & stir. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and mint sprig.
Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail: This recipe is courtesy of New York-based interior designer, Emily Butler of Emily Butler Interiors. Her lifestyle blog Deux Maisons is one of my favorites, and is full of beautiful design concepts, delicious recipes, and inventive entertaining ideas!
1-1/2 cups white cranberry juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary (& sprigs for garnish)
¼ cup fresh lemon juice
3 cups club soda
1-1/2 cups chilled gin
Combine cranberry juice, sugar, rosemary, and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Strain juice mixture through a sieve into a bowl; discard solids. Stir in lime juice, cover, and refrigerate until chilled, about two hours. Combine juice mixture, club soda, and gin in a large pitcher; stir well to combine. Serve mixture over ice and garnish with red cranberry and rosemary sprigs.
Santa’s Cider: This recipe comes from another one of my favorite food blogs, Cookie & Kate. She uses fresh, real ingredients (real apple cider! Not the sugar-filled faux version!) This drink is like a warm coat on a cold night – it’s perfect for sipping while you sit by the fire.
1 green tea or black tea bag (I like Tazo “Zen”)
1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon (I like Woodford Reserve)
1 ounce real apple cider
1/2 small lemon
garnishes: thin, round slices of lemon, a cinnamon stick, and star anise
Heat water to a boil and pour over the tea bag in a mug. Leave about an inch of room in your mug for the whiskey and cider. Let the tea steep for a few minutes, then discard the bag so the tea doesn’t get bitter.
Pour in the whiskey or bourbon and a hefty splash of apple cider (adjust these amounts to suit your tastes). Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon and garnish with lemon slices, a cinnamon stick and a star anise.
Merry Christmas, womanistas! I hope you enjoy these delicious recipes of Christmas cheer!
