Womanista Food + Drink: Hosting a “Glam” Super Bowl Party

One of my favorite days ever is Super Bowl Sunday (and I was lucky enough to be in Indianapolis last year to watch my beloved New York Giants win the championship!!) However, if I’m not able to be in attendance (which happens to have been every other Superbowl Sunday of my entire life thus far), I love hosting a fun party! Event planner extraordinaire, Marisa Manna Ferrell of “So Eventful” (who happens to be an avid 49ers fan!) shares her tips for hosting the perfect, “glammed up” Super Bowl party!

(Backstory: Last August I headed out to one of my favorite places in the world, Napa Valley, to witness one of my very best friends marry the man of her dreams. Her wedding & the reception that followed were not only gorgeous & fun, but the food, flowers, flow, and virtually every other detail were perfectly executed and wonderful! Bottom line? Her planner was seriously fab. I was lucky enough to meet her amazing event planner, Marisa, and subsequently picked her brain about every detail when it comes to entertaining! I recently asked her to share her entertaining tips with my lovely womanistas, and she agreed!)

So trust me, womanistas, you’ll want to throw this party! Read on for Marisa’s fabulous tips…

Whether your team is playing or not, you have a chance to win big with your friends by throwing the ultimate Super Bowl party! As an event planner, I like to really jazz it up when it comes to the décor of a party.

Bring your Super Bowl party to the next level with delicious snacks and sweets, mouthwatering beverages, decorations and details. This year kick it up a notch and show off your glamorous hostess skills.

As most of you already know, I am a proud 49ers fan…so this year at our house we are very excited about hosting the party! Here are a few Glammed Up Super Bowl party ideas that will get your juices flowing…

Start with the Attire:

A great way to get everyone pumped is to suggest that everyone to wear the team colors or jersey of the team they want to win. This will create a competitive, but approachable atmosphere for your party.

Decorations & Details:

Without proper decorations your Super Bowl party will be incomplete. Make sure you keep the theme of “football”.  As you will see, I have named our beverages, items and bars with all football lingo. This is fun for your guests and brings your event to the next level.

To keep within the theme of the event, I went out and bought AstroTurf, then I cut it down into coaster size pieces. This makes a great coaster for a cold bevvy and fits the theme of your event perfectly!

When your guests arrive, greet them with a “menu card” of all the details of your party. Usually when you attend a party your host will just verbally fill you in on what’s going on…this is a much more “Glammed Up” way of creating the theme of your party. On your menu card list all the activities and items you are featuring.

If the weather allows you to be outside, setup a fire pit and some heaters and have a cigar bar for the fellas. We have named ours “The Commercial Break Cigar Bar”.

Food Items:

When it comes to selecting your menu, keep it traditional. The Food Network has great, easy recipes for you to WOW the taste buds of your guests. People typically expect to snack on “the usual suspects” like nachos and wings during the Super Bowl.

Food items will go on your “Backfield Tasting Bar

Name your food items with the football lingo such as: “Champion” Chili, “First Down” Bean Dip, etc…

Beverages:

Beverages offered on our “Touchdown Bar

List your beverages. I’ve come up with the following signature drinks for our party:

  • Bloody Hail Mary’s Click here for the recipe. CAUTION: I make my Bloody Mary’s VERY spicy!

  • Coin Toss Cosmo’s Click here for the recipe.

How about ending the evening with an “End Zone” Night Cap? You can toast your guests with an assortment of coffee & tea, and maybe some more bubbly for fans of the winning team! (Just make sure a designated driver is available, or that you have the number of a cab company on hand!)

Games & Activities:

Keep a football around to throw during timeouts.

Start a friendly betting pool. This is fun for all ages to participate. Pick a square and pay one dollar!

Organizing and hosting a Glammed Up Super Bowl party does not have to be time-consuming or stressful. Make your event outshine the others. Do it right! Pay attention to the details and remember to keep within the theme of your party! This way you will be able to watch the whole game, enjoy your delicious snacks and sweets, consume your mouthwatering beverages and relax with your friends. Once you throw a Glammed Up Super Bowl party, just remember, people will be lining up outside your door for Super Bowls to come!

Enjoy. Go 49ers!

Cheers,

Love this post, Cassie! I tried my darndest to keep our party chic – but I fear my husband’s brut and masculine approach to everything may have won out! :)
