Womanista Food + Drink: Meyer Lemon + Gin Cocktail

When the weather warms up I start to crave a cocktail with crisp, fresh ingredients – something that “wakes up” your palate from the heavy richness of the winter season (let’s be honest though, I drink cabernet sauvignon year round!)

In my search for something fresh to sip, I concocted this cocktail with ingredients that I already had in my fridge and the result? FAB! Check out how to craft your own “Love & Lemon” (yes I just made that up…) cocktail below & please enjoy responsibly!

“Love & Lemon” Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. Gin (I use Hendrick’s)
  • the juice from 1 meyer lemon
  • a couple of sprigs of fresh cilantro (the leaves plucked from the stems)
  • simple syrup
  • Angostura Bitters

Lemony Goodness Ingredients

Add the chopped cilantro leaves & a splash of simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Cut one meyer lemon & juice it into the cocktail shaker. Muddle all those ingredients together.

Add 2 oz gin to the cocktail shaker (editors note: I’m not a “gin lover” but Hendrick’s has a light, floral essence that is super-drinkable. Plus, adding the citrus to the cocktail balances out the flavor perfectly! Even if you don’t like gin, you should give this cocktail a try)

Fill the cocktail shaker with ice, give it a few good shakes, and strain the mixture into a martini glass (I like sipping out of a martini glass but you can certainly use a rocks glass, too!)

Add a couple of sprinkles of angostura bitters to give it a final herbacious flavor to balance the tart of the lemon

Love & Lemon FINAL

Garnish with a slice of meyer lemon & VOILA! A fresh, perfectly balanced spring cocktail!

Happy sipping, womanistas!

    Hi Cassie,
Love your blog! I’m throwing a bachelorette for my friend in Nashville over Labor Day weekend and would love some good restaurant recommendations (preferably if you know of any that can accommodate 16!) and bars for a bunch of 30-something year olds :)

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! Hope you’re doing well!
