Womanista Travel: Beach Essentials

I just returned from a sunny getaway along the pristine beaches of the Florida gulf coast and it was absolute bliss! The warm ocean breezes, sunshine, and cold, frosty beverages made for a perfect, relaxing break for my husband and I. After a few days of hitting the beach, I pretty much mastered the art of the “perfect beach bag”! Here are a few essentials for a perfect beach day…

The Perfect Beach Bag: You can’t hit the beach without the perfect beach bag to stock all of your coastal goodies. This Old Navy “Pom Pom” Tote is durable, stylish, big enough to hold all of your essentials, and it’s inexpensive! For $15, you won’t mind if it gets a little sandy.

A Refreshing Beverage: Vihno Verde is quickly becoming my favorite beach wine. It’s an effervescent, bright, easy sipper that is cool and refreshing on a hot day. It’s like a citrusy pinot grigio with a hint of champagne bubbles (I mean really, can you ever go wrong with some bubbles??) Plus, it’s perfectly acceptable to put ice in your glass if you want your drink to cool down a bit! This great wine from Spain is typically priced under $12 a bottle, so you won’t break the bank for a great beach beverage.

A Stylish Towel: Turkish Towels are soft, durable, and super-stylish. They can also double as a chic sarong or bathing suit cover up! Why bring a regular towel to the beach when you can have a great multi-tasker like a turkish towel? These special edition turkish t’s from GOOP are a little more expensive, but they are super-luxe, gorgeous, and with a set of 4 the whole family can enjoy them. (Plus, they last forever!)

A Gorgeous Bikini: If you have read this blog before, you have heard me sing the praises of a Luli Fama bathing suit. They are stylish & super-flattering in a way no other bikini has ever worked for me before. The cut, the wavy hemlines, and the bright colors are a dynamite mix for a flawless beach look. They just look better on your body that other suits do. Luli Fama “Wavy” Bikini Top & Cosita Buena Bikini Bottom are both available from Shopbop & other online retailers.

A Fabulous Hat: I can’t hit the beach without a hat to protect my face from the sun (and you shouldn’t either, womanistas!) This Eugenia Kim “Bianca” feather-trimmed fedora is on-trend and fabulous. Plus, it will also protect your highlights from getting brassy (if you happen to be blond and highlighted like myself!)

A Day-to-Night Kaftan: I love a kaftan for several reasons. They are the perfect beach cover-up because they are light-weight, flowy, and look effortless. They also perfectly transition from beach to cocktails. You can throw on a few bangles and some glammed up footwear and look chic for post-beach cocktails in your glam kaftan! This Free People Striped Kaftan is easily wearable and looks ethereal in seafoam & ivory stripe.

An Embellished Sandal: These Jeffrey Campbell “puffer” sandals are some of my absolute favorites. They are unassumingly stylish AND comfortable. They give your outfit just the right amount of fabulous, without trying too hard. The iridescent spikes give them a rocker edge and they go with any ensemble. Another wardrobe addition that transitions seamlessly from sunbathing to apres-beach cocktails.

Durable & Glam Sunglasses: These Ray-Ban Aviators have been my go-to this entire spring and will continue shading my eyes for the duration of the summer! An aviator style looks great on ALL face shapes, and the matte gold frames & red-tinted lenses give them just a touch of glitz. I’m obsessed. Plus, they are lightweight and don’t slide off when you get sweaty like plastic frames can do.

A Hardworking Sunscreen: I know I preach this a lot, but you MUST wear sunscreen. Just.Do.It. My favorite antioxidant packed sunscreen is now available in a spray! (which, let’s be honest, makes application so much easier and is less messy!) L’oreal Sublime Sun SPF 50 sunscreen spray mist is packed with great vitamins for your skin, is long-wearing, and will keep you protected from the sun’s harmful rays. It’s a beach bag MUST HAVE!

A Great Beach Read: Coastal Living Magazine has some of the very best beach-inspired recipes, design ideas, and getaways. I love browsing the magazine for dinner ideas to make later that day. Plus, it just gets you in the mood for vacation!

Happy Summer Vacationing, womanistas!
