Womanista Travel: Cocktails in Sydney

Hello my womanistas! I have just returned from the magical country of Australia (and sigh, I’m still feeling the brutal jet lag…but it was well worth it!) My last stop in Oz was in Sydney – which is gorgeous, and beachy, and cosmopolitan at the same time. Kinda like a cool mix of San Francisco and LA. It’s fabulous.

One of the best ways to take in Sydney, is through a cocktail glass. And no view is more breathtaking than the Sydney Harbor! Here are a few of my favorite places to sip a cocktail along the Sydney coast.

Blu Bar at the Shangri La: This sophisticated cocktail lounge is chic, intimate, beautiful and the service is outstanding. But none of those things are really the draw here. The views are the best in Sydney. Seriously. Kick back in a cozy chair at sunset on the 36th floor of the Shangri La Hotel and sip some champagne. There is no better place to take in the sweeping views of the Opera House and the iconic bridge. It’s amazing.

The Russell Wine Bar: This cozy wine bar is warm and dimly lit, with great tapas and a focus on local australian wines. It’s located in the historic “rocks” district, just steps from Sydney Harbor.

It’s the perfect place to grab a comfy booth and sip a glass of wine with friends after dinner at a chic rocks district restaurant (I love Scarlett!) It’s super low-key with a touch of cool. One of my faves.

The Opera Bar: It’s not often that a top tourist destination ALSO features a totally awesome bar. But leave it to the Australians to do just that. I’m sure many of you have heard of the iconic Sydney Opera House…well this bar sits adjacent to the historic building, on the banks of the harbor. It’s buzzy, fun, and fabulous. Plus, it’s the perfect place to meet friends and sip a cocktail before seeing a show at the Opera House (which I HIGHLY recommend if you visit Sydney!)

Happy Sydney sipping, womanistas!

I always think at New Year’s Eve the most perfect thing is watching the fireworks from Sidney, ‘cos it’s SO beautiful when the fireworks comes up from the bridge. You are so lucky that get to travel such beautiful places. I would love to go to Oz someday, but first of all America. BTW, I’ve written about your blog in my blog, because I love Womanista blog!
